.SHORT TERM...
Issued 340 PM CDT Thu May 1 2025

Tonight through Friday night:

Low pressure continues northeastward from central lower
Michigan this evening, leaving us with low clouds and rain
chances in its wake. Scattered showers continue this afternoon,
with a lull likely this evening. Additional showers may develop
late tonight into early Friday morning as a second shortwave
trough in the 500mb pattern provides PVA. Afterwards, only
15-25% chances for light rain showers to continue Friday and
Friday night. High temps in the 50s on Friday, warmest (closer
to 60 degrees) south of I-94 and inland from Lake Michigan.
Light and variable winds Friday, with an easterly lake breeze
holding the shoreline to a high around 50 degrees flat. Said
lake breeze will push decently far inland (past Fond du Lac and
Waukesha) by late Friday afternoon, aided by high pressure
building into the upper Great Lakes region and a weak surface
pressure trough in southwestern WI.

.LONG TERM...
Issued 340 PM CDT Thu May 1 2025

Saturday through Thursday:

A 500mb trough passing Iowa late Friday evolves into a cutoff
low, which will spend the weekend wobbling around southern
Illinois / Indiana and western Kentucky. The corresponding sfc
low forms over the Appalachians, with weak surface high pressure
remaining dominant over the upper Great lakes and Wisconsin. Dry
and quiet weather expected for Saturday, with highs around 60
degrees in west-central WI, tapering into the 50s further south
and east, then to the upper 40s right along the shoreline due to
light northeast winds.

For Sunday, a plume of moisture wrapping around the occluding
low pressure over the Appalachians may develop some rain showers
(primarily in eastern WI and later in the day, 25-40% chances).
Other than that, the weather stays quiet and temperatures rise
to the low / mid 60s inland. A similar story for Monday,
widespread 20-35% rain chances and same temperatures. Any rain
Sunday / Monday (if applicable) is looking light.

For Tuesday and onwards, things are looking drier and warmer.
Early indications are highs around 70 inland, cooler by the
lake. High pressure remains dominant over the region.

.AVIATION...
Issued 340 PM CDT Thu May 1 2025

Cloud ceilings are expected to remain mostly IFR through the
remainder of the afternoon and tonight, with occasional periods
of 1,000 to 1,500 ft Fuel-Alt MVFR mixed in at times this
evening. Widely scattered light rain showers through the
remainder of the afternoon, a lull likely in the evening, then
additional scattered showers late tonight into early Friday
morning. Winds light and variable. IFR ceilings are likely to
lift to MVFR by late Friday morning / early Friday afternoon,
though the exact timeline is uncertain.

.MARINE...
Issued 340 PM CDT Thu May 1 2025

Nearshore:
The ongoing Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through this
evening due to lingering waves. Steady NNE winds Friday night
into Saturday morning may cause waves to approach Small Craft
Conditions, with waves around 4 ft forecast through the daytime
hours of Saturday.

Open Waters:
Low pressure around 29.6 inches will continue northeastward from
central lower-Michigan this evening. For the rest of today, modest
west winds over the southern half of the lake. Gusty north to
northeast winds for the north half, but remaining below gale force.
Winds decline as the low departs late tonight, leaving light
northwesterlies for the north half, with light and variable for the
south.

High pressure builds into the region from the north for the weekend,
with a low pressure system holding steady then occluding / decaying
over Kentucky / southern Indiana. This will lead to light northerly
winds throughout the weekend.
